Steps for SRE Teacher Authorisation
- Have each SRE Teacher complete the following forms:
- SRE Teacher Authorisation Form
- Attachment 4 - Working with Children Check Prohibited Employment Declaration.
- Send the completed forms to the PSS Child Protection Unit.
- A copy of the completed forms must be kept on file by the local church.
- If screening is necessary, the SRE Teacher will need to complete the Working with Children Check Background Check Consent form (Attachment 5). The PSS Child Protection Unit will forward the details of the SRE Teacher to the NSW Commission for Children and Young People (the Approved Screening Agency for the Presbyterian Church of NSW).
- PSS Child Protection Unit will be notified of the screening results by the NSW Commission for Children and Young People.
- If the screening results show that the SRE Teacher is not a Prohibited Person (i.e. a person who is convicted of a serious sex offence or a Registrable Person), PSS Child Protection Unit Education will proceed to issue a SRE Authorisation card for the SRE Teacher.
- PSS Child Protection Unit will send out the SRE Authorisation card with the Teacher’s name and the expiry date of Authorisation printed on the card.
- The SRE Teacher needs to sign and date the card
- The Minister/Session Clerk needs to sign and date the card.
